Solar Ready Roofs
Why not turn your roof into a power plant? Flat and low-sloped roofs are an excellent place to install Solar Energy Systems (SES). The top of your building is typically unused, has unobstructed spaces, and can transform the sunlight to power from dawn to dusk.
A roof not designed to allow for the additional weight of (SES) could lead to a nightmare of cost overruns and project delays. At first, a rooftop SES appears straightforward; however, without an experienced roofer who knows roofs, pitfalls could incur. Vanguard will do an Infrared scan, complete core cuts, and pull tests, of your roof and decking, before quoting and installing to ensure there are no underlying issues.
Why Solar Ready Roofs? These types of roofs will ensure they can comfortably handle the planned or future SES load, conditions, and reflectivity. It is just not the weight of the SES; it is also wind and snow loads. The SES can add up to 4 lbs per square foot and over 40 lbs at the attachment points. If you choose a ballasted system, it could add another 10 lbs per square foot. It can be expensive to turn off and disconnect the SES to repair the underlying roof, as an installed SES can limit future access to the entire roof field. We make sure your roof service life matches the service life of your chosen SES. When it comes to reflectivity, a white roof reflects the sunlight back onto the solar panels, plus an added benefit of keeping your roof cooler.
Vanguard can help by getting your roof ready, whether you are considering an SES now or in the future.
Vanguard will help investigate your options with the understanding; you want your roof to last as long as the SES. Our proposals consider your needs regarding longevity, function, appearance, manufacturer, code requirements, budget, and of course, safety.
Safety is an essential part of your Solar Ready Roofs. Our proposals will always include adequate roof access, and if appropriate guardrails, or tie-offs. Furthermore, all our recommendations include: walk pads for high traffic areas, Infrared scanning to identify any potential roof deck water infiltration, prep and paint gas lines for increased visibility to prevent damage, and power washing the membrane after installation optimizing the white reflectivity benefits.
